Title: Manager, Mission Volunteer Engagement

Job Summary

In addition to supporting the volunteer needs of the Patient Program & Education, Government Relations, and Health Equity teams, the Manager, Mission Volunteer Engagement will play a crucial role in supporting and enhancing ZERO's expanded Mission Volunteer initiatives in communities with the highest screening and life outcome disparities for those living with Prostate Cancer.   

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer Program Management:
    • Review and optimize the current Mission volunteer program
    • Develop and implement strategies to recruit, train, and retain volunteers
    • Create and maintain volunteer policies, procedures, and best practices
    • Ensure volunteer staffing needs are met for pilot communities

  • Engagement and Outreach:
    • Collaborate with the Community Engagement Committees (CECs) in each pilot community
    • Identify and establish partnerships with local schools, community and faith-based organizations, and professional associations to source volunteers
    • Engage with non-traditional community partners to diversify the volunteer pool

  • Training and Development:
    • Support the development and implementation of comprehensive training programs for volunteers
    • Develop resources and materials to support volunteer activities
    • Provide ongoing support and guidance to volunteers

  • Program Evaluation and Reporting:
    • Track volunteer activities, hours, and impact
    • Prepare regular reports on volunteer program performance
    • Collaborate with the Director of Measurement and Evaluation to assess the program's effectiveness

  • Community Relations:
    • Act as a liaison between ZERO and local community partners
    • Represent ZERO at community events and meetings related to volunteer engagement

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong understanding of health equity issues and community-based programming
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in volunteer management software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience in program development and evaluation
  • Ability to travel to pilot communities as needed
  • Exemplifies ZERO’s culture of humble, hungry and smart.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams/departments.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Non-profit Management, Social Work, Public Health, or related field
  • Three to five years of experience in volunteer management or community engagement
  • 3 - 5 years of previous experience supervising volunteers or managing paid staff. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, Planning, Public Administration, Health policy, or similar field is preferred.
  • 3 or more years of non-profit experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as computer printer, calculator, and copier. 
  • Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

This role will report directly to the Director, Mission Volunteers and Engagement and will work closely with the Mission Team to support ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer. 

This position can be based remotely. This position will require nationwide travel approximately 20% of the time.
