Position Description

The Human Resources Talent Manager (HRTM) is responsible for developing and implementing talent management strategies, policies, and programs that align with an institution’s strategic goals and support its engagement, retention, and development objectives. This includes managing performance, employee engagement, leadership development, training and succession planning, ensuring that they align with the mission and values of Seattle University. Essential Job Duties

• Develop and implement strategies, policies, and programs that align with business objectives, workforce engagement, retention, and development.
• Lead the alignment of innovative talent management plans to ensure the university maintains the competencies required to meet overall strategy and objectives that include leadership development, supervisory core competencies, staff professional and career growth strategies with university and divisional strategy, goals, and objectives.
• Execute and improve the employee performance management process, which includes the following elements: goal setting, feedback gathering, conducting evaluations, providing ongoing feedback, as well as individual development and coaching.
• Develop and deliver training and development programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the workforce, including leadership development programs to identify and develop high-potential employees for future leadership roles.
• Research and implement strategies to enhance workforce engagement such as flexible work arrangements.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition to promote internal mobility.
• Analyze talent data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
• Regularly partner with HR business partners, HR specialists, and institution leaders to drive talent initiatives supporting their business strategies.
• Offer advice and counsel to HR colleagues to ensure effective communication and change management strategies are incorporated into the implementation of talent management programs.
• Develops, edits and publishes HR communications.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Marginal Job Duties

• Implement succession planning strategies and build the process for ensuring a pipeline of qualified internal candidates for critical roles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, learning or organizational development, or a related field.
• 4 to 7 years of experience working in learning and development or organizational development or human resources.
• Experience analyzing Human Resources trends and metrics in developing solutions, programs, and policies.
• Knowledge of training and facilitation methods, adult learning principles, and one-on-one coaching acumen.
• Highly proficient in the use of HRMS, and LMS as well as Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and Excel.
• Strong consulting skills and application of effective organization design, workforce planning, internal mobility, onboarding, performance management, and delivering learning programs.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt presentation, facilitation, and coaching style and approach to the respective audience in an inclusive.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including the ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
• Ability to work effectively in an inclusive environment with populations and varying work styles.
• Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain good working relationships both inside and outside of the division.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and across teams with a focus on service orientation.
• Customer-focused orientation with a high level of professionalism and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous higher education work experience, or exposure to higher education or experience working in a complex matrixed organization.
• A master’s degree in human resources or a related field.
• Certification in Human Resource Management from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), or Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
• Understanding and interest in artificial intelligence (AI).

Compensation at a Glance


Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000


Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university’s discretion.
